Mr. - Barrett has been mayor of his town, a member of the conncil for a number of terms and is well known all over the county. He has taken an active interest in the formation of the connty development league, of which organization he is a director. Lienalleu, of Adams, who has beeu invited by the democrats to be come a candidate for the office of representative from Umatilla oouuty, has deoided to make the race for the nomination and Tuesday eveuiug filed his declaration of principles with County Clerk Saling. The declaration filed by Mr. Lieu alien is us follows: To Frank Saliug, county clerk of the county of Umatilla, state of Ore gon, aud to the demooratio voters of Umatilla oouuty, and the electors of the oouuty of Umatilla, in the state of Oregou : I, J. T. Lieuallen, reside at Adams, Ore., and my postoffico address is Adams, Ore. I am a dnly register ed member of the democratic party. If I am noiuiuated for the office of representative the primary nominat ing election to be held kin the county of Umatilla in the state of Oregou on the 20 day of April, 1908. He believes that the government should build the Dalles-Celilo canal as soon as possible and give the people of Eastern Oregon relief in traffic rates. Mr. Cake is widely and favor ably known as an ardent advooate of a greater and more progressive state.
