Harder, northeast of town, is reported by Dr. Cashatt Robert Mortimer finished Wednes day the foundation for J. B. Gross residence ou Normal Heights. Con tractor Gore will soon start the con struction of the cottage. L. 0. Fay Loveridge, who has been farm ing rented land on the reservation eight miles south of Mission for the past two years, visited his parents . at Weston Saturday. He has disposed of his reservation interests, and would now like to rent some land in this part of the county. ' I The German Baptist Brethren have cbosen as a site for their new church building the four vacant lots on Water street near the public school house. So soon as the transfer of the property is completed they will begin the con struction of the church, which will be about 36x60 feet in dimensions, with basement. The plans have not yet been fully decided upon. Judge Knox accidentally fell down an open cellar way in the Lobby sal oon Monday afternoon. He landed on his head and was tmoonscious for a short time, but his injuries were only temporary. The Leader does not wish 'the public to inferjfrom this item that the judge had been imbibng, for he bad not He was as sober as a Judge. The Leader's editor, Clark Wood, and P.. T. Harbour, foreman of the Weston brick yard, left for Portland Sunday moraine where thev will at tend the E. of P. grand lodge, and en joy a few of the last days of the ex position. The Leader's "devil," Dwight Gore, says, "while I feel my disproportiouableness (pretty good word) to keep the Leader up to its standard this week I will bet that I gee out a witter paper man rea juoya of the Athena Press. John McNeal and ' wife encamped below town on Tuesday, ' and had a family jangle, after which McNeal drove toward Milton taking all their possessions and four of the children, leaving his wife and, two other chil dren destitute by the wayside. Mrs. McNeal complained to Weston author ities and asked for assistance; before auy thing was done, however, haviug an opportunity offered by other over land travelers, she followed ber bus band to Milton, with hopes of a recon ciliation. They were en route to Se attle. ' Eeati Her Husband. A fight in which a woman beat her husband over the head with an um brella enlivened the dullness of Colfax Saturday afternoon. J. A. Pierce and bis wife have been at law recently over a division of their property. ' Mrs. Pierce sued for maintenance, and her husband contested the case. Judge Cbadwick refused the petitions for each, ana ordered their property sola and the proceeds placed in trust for the two minor' children. After leav ing the courtroom Fierce and Bert Hereford, who had been a witness in the case and whose claim against the state had just been allowed by the court, engaged in a fight on the street. Hereford and Pierce were scuffling .when Mrs. Pierce took a hand in the affray and began pounding her hus band on the head with an umbrella.
