Mrs. O. C. Beck Sr., who las been
for some weeks sojourning on her home,

with the mumps during her stay on the

The third annual ball given by the
Athena Fire department last Friday
evening was a great success, bb have

Mr. L. E. Kerbaugh, business man
ager for the Pendleton Tribune, was in
the city yesterday on a short business
visit. Mr. Kerbaugh reports the
Tribune as flourishing. The mechanical
plant is being greatly improved, three
presses and a "paper cutter being now
on the way from the factory. '
Jjohn P. McManus, the Irish editor of
e Pilot Bock Record, celebrated St.
Patrick's Day in the morning by taking
unto himself a partner for life.-; Jn
Salem, Friday, Mr. McManus and Ida
McAllister were united in marriage.

Mrs. P. E. Colbern has received in
telligence of the death of her father, at
his home in Missouri. He died at the
ripe sge of 85 years, lacking one month

in a victory for Weston by a score of 9
to 6.

to investigate a land proposition, and
from there expects to go to Portland,

James Ritchey and family were the
guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. 0. M.
Brotherton at Athena.
Mrs. C. C. Whiteman and infant child
left Tuesday for Spokane to join Mr.
Whiteman, who has located there.
Alexander Kinnear and son, Ralph
Kinnear, have gone to Spokane and the
Palouse country with the intention of
buying land for the latter's use.
G. DeGraw and Andrew Larson have
returned from California. Mr. DeGraw
was detained by sickness at San Fran
cisco, and is yet "suffering severely from
bronchitis.
Jasper O'Harra was in the city this
week from Medford visiting bis brothers
and old-time friends., Mr. O'Harra
recently sold his Southern Oregon farm
for $20,800, and has not decided where
he will locate again. He has been look
ing after his land interests in the Cold
Spring district in this county.' !
