    TWO COOD GAMES
MAEQUIS AN ENIGMA TO WHIT
MAN COLLEGE TEAM.
It Took Fourteen Innings to Decide
the Athena-Fendleton Game
Score 6 to 4.
Id the game 'with the Athena Beds
Saturday ilez Brown'e Whitman College
professor could do nothing with Marquis
their old time whirlwind southpaw, who
was on the rubber for the reds. Only
four hits, two of the scratch order, were
made off his delivery. And holy
ginger! read the strike-out list 14 in
cluding every man on the team. -
The five scores came to Whitman on
errors, and if the reds had given Mar
auia the suDDort thev nut ud Sunday
behind Frescott and La Brashe, the
college team would have been shut out.
Whitman was blanked in the first, two
striking out. They scored in the second
and in the thiid a wild throw and two
errors at third let in three runs, and the
fifth '- and last run came in on a passed
ball in the fifth.
I Athena commenced poundiDg Per
ringer and scored once in the first
chapter and knocked him out of the
box in the fourth, when four registra
tions were marked on the score board.
White scored in the 5th and Walsh trot
ted in with one in the sixth. Laurence
Lieuallen scored in the 6th, and two
came to the pan in the 8th.

It Took 14 Innings.
Sunday the fans were treated to a
regular "Yellow Kid" exhibition. There
were 14 innings of glory, hard work and
excitement.
The two teams were evenly matched
and splendid support was given the
pitchers on each side. Pendleton start
ed off with a run in the first inning, got
one in the fourth and two in the seventh.
Prescott, owing to a lame . arm, was re
lieved by La Brashe in the fifth and the
Pendletonites were unable to safely
connect with him but for four safe
swats. The Reds were blanked up to
the seventh, when they landed on King
and with a couple of errors pulled the
string for two.
In the ninth the crowd went wild
when Athena tied. The game went on
to the 14th inning before it was decided
by Pendleton getting two runs on errors
ut 3rd base. It was a pretty pitchers
battle up to , this time and there was
plenty of fast playing all the time.
Features of the game aside from La
Brashe and King's pitching were the
fielding' of Walsh for Athena, and
Strand' work at short for Pendleton.

New Method vs. the Old.
As a comparison in cost of harvesting
with a Holt Combine and harvesting
with the old header-thresher method,
Mr. E. L. Smith, agent for the Holt
Co., submits the following figures:
Colt of Heading. "
1000 acres at $1.25 per acre $1250
Cost to thresh 1000 acres of 30 bu.
grain at 6c 1800
Loss of 1 sack per acre on 1000
acres at $1.35 per sack. ......... 1350
Total cost.. ........ J'. $4400
To Bay Holt Harvester.
Cost....... , $1800
20 head horses. . . 000
10 set harness 300
Cost of labor 280
Total cost of outfit and help .... $4380
The above figures show that a farmer
can pay for 'entire outfit, pay cost of
help and have $20 to bis credit. This
is done in the harvesting of 1000 acres. '
A Sure Thing.
It is said that nothing is sure except
death and taxes, but that is not all to
gether true. Dr. King's New Discovery
for Consumption is a sure cure for all
lung and throat troubles. Thousands
can testify to that. Mrs. Q. B. VanMe
tre of Shepherdtown, W. Va., says "I
had a severe case of bronchitis and for a
year tried everything I heard of, but got
no relief. One bottle of Dr. Kings New
Discovery then cured me absolutely."
It's infallible for ' croup, whooping
cough, grip pneumonia andconsumption.
Try it. It's guaranteed by W. McBride,
Druggist. Trial bottle free. Reg.
sizes 50c, $1.00. '
1 Quick Arrest.
J. A. Gulledge of Verbena, Ala. was
twice in the hospital from a severe case
of piles causing 24 tumors. After doc
tors and all remedies failed, Bucklen's
Arnica Salve quickly arrested further in
flamation and cured him. It conquers
aches and kills pain, 25c. at W. Mc
