Faxon has filed a notice of contest of the election of Wil liam Blakeley to the office of sheriff. Wednesday evening Attorney D. W. Bailey presented at the office of the county clerk the notice of contest for filing, also a motion asking for a re count in the circuit court on Tuesday, July 21, and later in (he evening an order to the court to that effect was filed. Ex-Sberiff Faxon alleges in bis re quest for a recount that 45 votes cast for him in the county were not counted, and that in Pendleton precinct persons not authorized and unqualified assisted iu keeping and counting the talley sheet Sheriff Blakeley was interviewed about the matter yesterday morning and ex pressed himself as perfectly willing that a recount should be had, the outcome of which he is satisfied will be in his favor. As it ia well known that in the election a large number of votes really cast for the uaion party candidates were not counted because of the cross boing before the name of the party, instead of be tween the number and the name ot the candieate, he stands a better chance of having his majority increased thau hav ing it ewept away.
