Crowe, of this city, has recently become a min ing man and has acquired a claim at Humpter, Baker county, We hope he'll make a million. If the new council will shut up the town cows and devise some plan to ex terminate the horde of worthless dogs in the city, Milton would be a paradise, or as near to it as any place on this earth can be. The children of Milton have been undergoing an epidemic of influenia. In aome cases the disease is very severe and leaves the patient weak and emaciated. Hardly a family in the city . have aacanad the maladv. A Wallowa county woodchopper goes about with a huge cow-bell attached to , his back. Proposed Association for St:ck Fairs - and Horre Racing. Pendleton, an. 12. Pendleton has gone daft on bowling alleys The entire male population, aod no inconsiderable portion of tbe female, spends its spare time and change bowling at "cocked bat," and tbe two daily papers are reek ing with records of the various scores made by enthusiasts. . . The proposed association for stock fairs and horse races is having no trouble in securing subscribers of stock Tbe total amount needed to nt up a nrsi ciass track and stable accommodations is only $7,500, and of this amount nearly $4,000 bad been already mbacrioea, in amounts ranging from $5 to 1250. The promoters of the enterprise anticipate no difficulty in securing the other $3,500. The scheme is to have an annual race meet ing here, at which it is expected all the fast horses from the Montana circuit will compete, as well as eome of the Ore gon and Washington nyers. vrorz on the track will begin in tbe spring and it is expected to have a big race meet here in tbe summer. O. A. Barrett, of Athena, acting as re ceiver, filed complaints in three suits in the circuit court tnis weex, one against the Bergevins for $1023.92, one against Louis and Felix Audette lor o37.os, ana one against Samuel Pamburn for $107.25. The new city marshal, "Missouri John," is creating some stir in the town these days. Hs has gone over the book of city ordinances thoroughly and in tends to enforce them all. uambimg at least open gambling is totally sup pressed, tbe numerous vagabonds who which the city was infested are disap pearing or going on tbe chain gang, and the curfew is being strictly enforced, much to the dieaust of the luveniles. There is some complaint against tbe marshal's action, but be is inexorable, II vou don't like tbe laws, repeal them," is all he will aav. It ia doubtful if the council-will take any action toward re pealing the laws, and tbe marenai is virtually boss ot the town; There has been no small amount of excitement stirred up over politics, both city and county in the last few days. Dr. 8miih, the "reform" candidate for mayor, had the support of democrats, republicans and populists, and naturally each party was expecting some plums especially tbe democrats and populists. Tbe new mayor retained in office four of tbe appointees of bis predecessor, and handed the balance of the official pie over to the republicans with tbe single exception of city physician, an office more of honor than emolument, which was given to Dr. II. 8. Garfield, one of the populist leaders here. Naturally some of the democrats and populists are feeling sore, but in the main the ap pointments are satisfactory, The over tures made by the populist county com mittee to the democrats are gratifying to members of both parties, and there is little doubt but what a union ticket to be supported by the great majority of pop ulists and democrats will be selected. There are certatuly enough good men in both parties to put out an excellent ticket, and, it is the desire of the leaders of both parties that a ticket satiefactory to all concerned shall be selected. It would barn and itcli all the time and discharge a great deal. My health was good with the exception ot this sore. I tried a great many kinds of salve, but some would irritate the sore so that I could hardly stand the pain. I could not go near the fire without suffering intensely. Someone sent me papers containing testimonials of cares by Hood's Sarsaparilla, and I told my husband I would like to try this med icine. He got me a bottle and I found it helped me.
