Chas Shepherd was in from, Brew
Bter Valley yesterday. He informs
us that during the snow storms this
winter quite a number of deer were
found dead out in the Valley. He
thinks that n great number of them
must have died back further in the
hills. Those that were found were
near the road and one was found in
Mr. Shepherd's pasture near his house
The deer were very thin and the sup
position is that they starved to death
as there was several inches of snow
nnd feed was very scarce tt that time
This is not very encouraging news to
W. C. Rose u Mr. Shepherd is living
on Rose's game preserve and he fears
that many big bucks on the place died

'The Bang Sun Engine"
Dana T. Morlcy is the next man se
lected to 1-c "rooked" of his hard earn
ed cash. He was a member of the cli
que of unscrupulous financiers who
ruined old man Warden, and J. Ru
fus and Ulackie have promised the
Warden girls that they will help in
getting it back.
One Edward Bang, inventor of n
sun engine, is deep in debt to Morley,
and it is through him that the confi
dence men get at their quarry and
lead him to slaughter. Everything is
worked in unison and harmony and
friend Morley falls hard. He is led
to believe that the confidence men con
template building a large factory to
produce these sun engines nnd that
there is no limit to the money that is
to bo made. Wallingford and his
henchmen have a "row" and the
Warden girls say they will sell their
option on the whole "shooting-match"
or several hundred thousand dollars
Morley snaps it up, figuring on selling
it to Wallingford, knowing that J. Ru
fus wants it.
They give him the options, all right
but when he goes after the genial
Wallingford, that worthy offers ex
actly thirty cents for the whole thing.
"Stung", says Morley. "Who's next
on the list?" say the "con"-mcn.
He is landed in the next episode.

Sam Bernard", Laugh Producer at the

Comedian Makes Screen Debut in a
Tvnical Characterization, "I'oor
Schmaltz."
Sam Bernard the impressible king
of comedy, whom the Famous Players
Film Co. induced to present his un
equalled mirth-provoking talents on
the screen, makes his first appearance
before the motion picture public, in a
four-part film travesty, entitled"Poor
Schmaltz."
This great comedian in his first film
impersonation, introduces a new type
Of comey to tho screen. As "Poor
Schmaltz" ho renders one of the most
laughable characterizations of his
brilliant career aa tho foremost ex
ponent of eccentric comedy on. the
American stage. As the persocuted
and persistent wooer of an American
hoiress, ha presents one of the most
humorous spectacles ever seen on the
jcreen, and "Poor Schmaltz" may tru
ly be termed Sam Bernard 'in Dutch"
It requires four hilarious reels to
complete Poor Schmaltz's distressing
but excruciatingly funny adventures
on tho screen nnd the humor grows
until ono is well-nigh exhausted with
laughter.
Tho Famous Players Film Company
has selected "Poor Schmaltz" as the
title of Mr. Bernard's first screen im
personation because that was tho cha
I racter-namo borne by the illustrious
comedian in his greatest stage sue
, cesses.
"Poor Schmaltz" was designed for
J laughing purposes only, and in this di-
rcction it succeeds howlingly. This
l great comedy attraction may be term
cd the most pretentious humorous
feature ever presented on the screen,
and will be seen nt the Grand Theater

Tuxedo's Grip
by Walt Mason
Tuxedo I die gripping smoke, a boon to every buyer;
you take your pipe of English oak, of meerschaum,
clay or briar, and fill it with the fragrant weed, the
choicest man can gather; and then you have a smoke,
indeed; and are you glad? Well, rather. Tuxedo
has no kick or bite, suggests no "morning after;" its
mission is to bring delight, and
fill your heart with laughter.
It caught the sunshine of the
south, when it was green and
growing, and brings that sun
shine to your mouth, when
out the smoke you're blowing.
"Tuxedo's in a class alone," its
smokers are declaring; "it has a
fragrance all its own, that baffles
all comparing." And thus it
grips the men who smoke, and holds their true affec
tion; their trusty briar pipes they
stoke, and never know dejection. QtytLsxW'v'
