The bed of Rogue river and the sand of the ocean beach at the mouth of the river are to be dredged for gold by a large and wealthy company of San Francisco. The work will probably be started in the spring. At different times gold has been panned from the rivers and beachos and in fact that is the way Gold Beach got its name. For some time past tests have been made of these sands and is has beo nfound that they carry something like 30 cts worth of gold to the ton and tho only way such small values can be saved is by dredging on a large scnle. The tests have been siatisfactory to the San Francisco men who are of large wealth and it was decided to work the grounds on a large scale. One of the largest types of gold dredges will be taken there in the Spring. The sand and gravel of the river beds can be handled in such large quantities that it will bo profitable.
