Knight's children have been ill but uro reported nearly well again. Mair Dnno and wife of Marshfleld spent Sunday with Mr. Dano's parents in Bandon. John Uumble, C. T. Fieger, Rev. W. B. Smith and II. J. McDnirmid were in attendance at court last Saturday. The Handon high school has twenty graduates this year, being the largest graduating class in Coos county for ltflG. Miss Hilda J. Knight, teacher at Imglois for the past year expects to start soon for her home in Dorset, England. Eugene Schctter, local agent for tho Handon Warehouse company went up tho river yesterday on a busines trip. S. K. Hines took his place at the ware house. P. J. Smith, driver of one of the fer ry care is wondering what deadly enemy he lias, lie reports that some one fired a shot at him in the vicinity of the Spruce Valley bridge Tuesday night. The churches of the city must have had numerous empty benches Sunday morning judging from the swarm of citizens who thronged the beach in tho hunt for clams. Hanly of Lampa creek was a business visitor in Bandon Saturday. The junior class of the high school representing the graduates of 1910, numbers 18 pupils. Among the citizens of the Coquile valley who had busines in Marshfield Friday was A. IS. Kruse of Prosper. Miss Elsie Wolf who has been mis sing from her place in the post office on account of being dangerously ill is now reported as improving. W. L. Mast returned Monday from a trip to Iee on the north fork where npend Saturday and Sunday visiting with his mother and renewing his acquaintance of the scenes of youth ful days. Klhcrt Dyer is preparing to erect a building at tho corner of Klmira avenue anl lithe street, east which will be occupied by Brown and Gibson as a planing mill. Workmen have cleared the lot and arc now excavat ing for a basement, and the founda tion. Tom cod is the attraction at present. Walter Condon came to Bandon re cently circulating a petition for the release from prison of J. R. Sheridan tho recently sentenced Itoseburg banker. Ho had about 800 signatures including many of tho most prom inent people of Coos county. He was rapidly acquiring signatures in Ban don. Clins. Ijmglois and family expect to move in the near future to Ixs Angel es, Cal. where Halbert Ijinglois will enter a technical school. The San Francisco Fair is not only tho greatest fair ever held on the coast but in many respects is the greatest ever held on the globe It is attracting world wide attention and no one in this section of Oregon can nflord to miss it. However it will not be necessary for the winner of this prize to make a trip to San Francisco. She can if she will have its equivalent in money and use it on a vacation trip anywhere she has a mind to. Any one not connected with tho Re corder office or with any of the stores entering into the contest can try for this prize. All that is neces sary for a lady to enter the lists is to fill out the blank to be found in anoth er part of this paper and send or bring it to tho Recorder office. Gardner, Bandon's new ac quisition from the legal fraternity, was a visitor in Langlois last week whore ho had business before the court of his honor, A. A. Adolfsen. Tho Speedwell arrived Sunday night with the following passengers: W. Huntly, W. J. McMenery, Mrs. Myrtle Jones and child, Beverly Hog heod, Lester Bunny, J. Robinson, Clarence Orebon, Miss Alice Peck. Captain Johnson of the Coast Guards reports that he has not been out of Handon more than M days in 10 years and that in July and August lie is going to take a vacation of a month Himself and family will drive to Port land and elsewhere in his now Dodge car. Carl Swelgen is circulating a peti tion this week among tho residents of three road districts, 111, 10 and "0, be in the vicinity of the upper Two Mile Creek. It is the purpose to law out a new road from tho bridge on the F. N. Perkins place to connect with the Myrtle Point to Langlois road. Tho three masted sailing schooner, Bertie Minor, which has been moored up tho river near Proser for two years, ever since tho burning of the Randolph mill, is being loaded with ties for tho Robert Dollar company at. the Central Warehouse wharf. Tho ties go to San Francisco lay. A letter received this week from J. I). Mills states that he is now with the St Paul hotel in Portland, a news item that will be of interest to tho many friends of that gentleman in Bandon. Mr. Mills left this city on the first of January and since then has been in San Diego, San Francis co, Hureka, Portland and other points. Some of the most valuable refer ence literature thero is, esjiecially that relative to the geography and geology of tho country is that published by Uncle Sam. Some intesesting publi cations of tills nature have recently lieen received by the Bandon public library. Among them are several hooks on Alaska. Steiuhoff is building an ad dition to the back of his store which will bo used as work rooms. Tho front part of tho store will then be used exclusively as a sales room. Tho addition was nocesitated by the need of more room in the sales department. J. A. Staplcton brought in today to the Recorder office a handbag which lie had picked up on the Dairyville road at the end of tho planking. There was no money in tho bag, all apparently having been spent on a new pair of sox, long ones.The owner may recov er both sachel and sox by calling at tho Recorder office. Stephen Galiier has been a resi dent of Coos county for fortytwo years and although ho lias held many offices during that time from coun cilman to sheritr of tho county he has never before served as a juryman. For the past month he has been one of Bandon's contribution to the present circuit court jury. One of his relax ations while serving on the jury was to act as one of the reviewers to in vestigate the First street paving in Coquillc. It was decided that the gen eral fund of Coquillc would have to be drawn on for about $1,000. Tho government engineer now has the boiler, drills, and dericks in place at tho Tupprr rock quarry and have started blast inf. The tramv. ly is completed and rock hauling will commence in a few days. About forty thousand tons of rock will be placed along the jetty. This will require about 8 month;,. C. C. CIRCUIT COURT NOTHS After a five weeks continuous ses sion of the Circuit Court, Judge Coke lias taken a brief respite, and last Saturday declared an adjournment for a week, or until the 7th of June. The jurymen were dismissed for that length of time. There were many cases in which the depositions were being taken and would arrive most any day but were not yet received, al so a number of Coos county attorneys were required to appear in tho sm preme court this present week. More over the judge and jurymen though they were entitled to a rest after ses-i sions of court continuing from nine A. M to 0:00 and 0::t0 P. M. each day Hence the adjournment. It will re quire at least ten days to complete the work. The case of Howell vs Coos county tried Friday wherein the jilaintitr wii" suing for damages consisting of pro visions lost by reason of an accide I resulted in much directly conflicting testimony a n d h u n g t h e jury nearly five hours in uncertainty, after which the jury compromised on a verdict of $15 for the plaintiff and against the county. The Howell case was immeditely followed by tho caso of Feiger v i Rumble which was appealed from the Handon justice court, wherein Feiger had previously prevailed. I). .Marshall who moved from Bandon to Coquillo early this spring to engage in the occupation of jurymen, return ed to Bandon last Saturday for a week-end visit, during which tun they are renewing old acquaintanc and shaking hands with former friends.
