A special to the Orogonian from Corvalis says: With six cow testing organisations carrying slightly more than 3,000 dairy cows on official test, dairymen of Coos County lead all counties of the United States in this progressive plan of building up the dairy herds. Testing Is Testing Cow testing in Coos County has been made to mean precisely what the term implies. Each cow test ed for its butter-fat content for each month in the year by a competent, enthusiastic and disinterested offi cial tester working under the super vision of the college dairy officers. The records are accepted by dairy men everywhere as being correct and authenic, and if nny cow falls to measure up to standard dairy re quirements, she is put out of the class of profitable dairy cows and her place in the herd will be sup plied by unother and better cow. In this way good cows are secured for the present production, and still bet ter cows will be bred for future pro ducers. & MARY PICK FORD LOST TO CHEAP THEATERS "Little Mary" Pickford is lost to the popular priced picture houses and after one more release with the Fa mous Players in the regular way, she will go on celluloid tour to be shown only in photoplay houses charging 25 cts. and up in legitimate theaters. The Famous Players compuny has formed .1 special booking concern, to be known as the Select Firm Rooking agency, to book the Eternal City and other subjects too long for the regu lar programs as well as the Pickford releases. After these subjects have been re leased all over the country at the high er price they will then be released to the popular priced houses. The enor mous salary paid the little star and the great cost of her forthcoming productions are the reasons for the change in tr.e handling of her films. Those who know declare that Miss Pickford not only receives $3,000 a week but also a percentage of the films' earnings. The commissioners of the Port of Coos Hay are considering the purchase of a dredge. Will Move The Station. Coos Bay people, after endeavoring for many . years to have the life saving station moved from its present site in the lower bay to a point near Charleston, will probably sec its ac complishment this year, as advices from Washington received last week are to the effect that the department will advertise for bids next month with that object in view. The station will be much nearer the bar in its new location, and prompt assistance can he rendered in case of accidents to shipping at the entrance of the bay and also to bay steamers, launches, etc., which take passengers and excur sion parties to South Slough and beach resorts. It contended that a number of lives could have been saved if the station had been moved years ago but the department, for some reason not understood hero, was very slow to act. It is hoped that noth ing will arise now to prevent the moving of the station this summer. , Coos Bay Times.
