It is our op portunity and duty to build a modern highway from Marshfield to Uandon. It should be of such construction that it will stand up under the heaviest au tornobile traffic at all seasons of the year. If we do so we will no longer be in an isolated situation. We would be almost as favorably situated as though the railroad extended to Dan don. The increasing use of the automo bile wherever good roads are pro vided is amazing nnd revolutionary Automobile stago lines operating ov er sufficient roads are not only suc cessfully competing with the beat in tcrurban electric lines, but in several cities are offering an efficient compe tition to the street cars. They are not only able to make inroads into the street car companies earnings by fol lowing shorter routes and sleeper grades than the cars do and by run ing in districts that the street car companies desire to make walk to their cxistin-r lines, but also by run ning on the samc.strects that the cars run. In sections of the country well provided with suitable roads they aro successfully competing with steam railroads in hauling both passengers and freight. Traffic experts predict an increasing use of auto trucks for freight hauling and their use over longer distances. California is spending millions in building good automobile roads. They have found that the investment pays in attraction of tourists alone, even if other advantages arc not considered The Bandon beach is by far the most picturesque to be found along the entire U. S. Pacific coast line, but is practicaly unused by tourists ow ing to the difficulty in reaching it. Tourists at present have to choose between a fatiguing stage ride and sea sickness. An efficient and com fortable hourly auto service between Tourists at present have no choice Marshfield and Bandon would offer an additional enjoyment to arriving tourists. Nothing is more enjoyable and exhilarating than a fast auto ride over excellent roads. With such a road built tourist and vacation patronago might easily be come tho leading and most paying in dustry of Bandon. It is a profitable ! and cash business. It is poor policy for Bandon not to realize on its great est natural resource. The rest of the world is fast build ing durablo roads and any community r J T I TT Free Box Candy To all small children accom panied by adults visiting our Annex Saturday, December 19th from 2 to 4 P. TOYS A delayed shipment of toys has just arrived and must be sold before Christmas. Prices have been marked accordingly which means a great saving on your toy purchases. that fails to do so will be left behind in the procession. The Coquille riv er country has been settled long. Still the rich natural resources have hard ly been touched with the exception of lumber. But little land has been cleared, though when cleared it is tho best dairy land to be found anywhere and ranks high for agricultural and horticultral purposes. Poor trans portation and especially poor wagon roads has been tho country's only drawback. Tho hills are rich in coal and mineral resources awaiting aces sibility for their development. The property abutting such a road would be quadrupled in value immed iately while the land within several miles would advance in price. Nature has been too prodigal with her benificents. But the time has ar rived when we must meet greater opportunities with greater expendi tures of energy. When the era of prosperity and development that can not be long delayed arrives it should find us ready to play our part and receive our reward. Tho gods help those that help them selves. Opportunity is knocking at our door and we should measure up to our oportunitics. This is a project for a resuscitated commercial club. Comet Let us gird up our loins and put on tho whole jrmour of progress. Bandon should arise to her opportunity. 0iS BANDON CHUKC1IES M. E. Church South Sunday School, 10:00 a. m.
