Doe breaks tho bank at Monte Car
lo und gives all of his winnings to a
beautiful blonde who has lost heav
ily and is about -to take poison. She,
in return, gives Doo a card written in
French. Curious to know what it
means hen sks tho waiter to read it.
The waiter indignantly refrs it to
the manager, who orders Doc and
Ping thrown out. Doo hands the card
to a stranger who is about to shoot
himself. The stranger challenges
Doo to a duel and leads him to tho
field of honor. When Doo sees tho
size of tho crowd awaiting him ho
decides there will be no duel. He
and Ping make their escape in an air
ship. Ping throws a bomb at their
pursuers, loses his balance and falls
out.
Pnsy Good, having a heated argu
ment wjth tho manager of tho hotel
about her bill, whon Doo arrives and
upon learning of her misfortune, pays
her bill. Pansy is grateful and Doc
loses his heart. The Popcpreorns
meet Lictcnant Ladislas, a disting
uished Hungarian officer, who takes
Mrs. Peppercorn nnd Flora on a
sightseeing tour. Peppercorn plans
to entertain tho telephono operator
that night nnd feigns a headache to
?et away from Mrs. Peppercorn. Doo
ami Pansy nro in the Cafe Chantant.
Doo is recognized by Baptiste as tho
American whoso picture ho found in
his wife's possession. Baptiste chal
lenges Doo to n duel. Pansy sings
and makes a hit. Baptiste meets his
old friend, Lieutenant Ladislas, who
introduces him to Flora and Mrs. Pep
percorn. Mrs. Peppercorn meets no
bility at last and plans to capture tho
"Count" for her daughter. Doe, Pan
sy and tho Peppercorns attend a con
gest Feet vs. Fists between Achillc
Petipas, Savatist (Kicker) and Tim
Flaherty, an American Pugilist. Doo
bets on Flaherty and wins. Baplisto
still vengcanco bent, pursuoh Doe.
Doe accepts his challengo and ongrges
Flaherty as his body guard. Flaherty
apd Ping, arrayed in armor, moot
Baptiste in Doe's apartments. Bap
tiste gets tho worst of it. The duel
creates a panic in the hotel and Doe's
apartment is demolished. Doe decides
to get back to Broadway and Bap
tiste plans to follow. Doc leaves witli
Pansy and Flaherty; Baptiste pays
court to Flora and Mrs. Peppercorn,
eager to exhibit tho Count, sails for
homo. Doo builds a theatre and as the
opening show is a failure he gives it
to a newsboy, and marries Pansy.
