The Douglas County Creamery, lias installed an ice manufacturing plant of its own. The Warren Construction Co. is rushing a big job of paving at Marsh field to. a close before the rainy sea son sets in. Answor No. Another effort to create a useless commission at the taxpayer's expense Abolishing Desert -Land Board Answer Yes. This bill has some objcctional fen tures. But on tho whole it reduces useless offices and is a step in the right direction. By reducing the num- bor of scparato state officers and add ing the necessary clerks our state of ficers could save tho taxpayers many thousands of dollars annually. Proportional Representation. Answor No. it tno but were drawn to secure real proportional representation it would' merit support. But this bill whilo giving us party vproportionalr roprcsontation, would give us section al representation, which is worse than what wo now have. Bickncll,. chairman of the committee on housing, Nation al Civic Federation, and wifo of the national director of tho American Red Cross, recently paid a beautiful tri bute to the memory of Mrs. Woodrow IWilson, in a review of her work for the improvement of working and liv conditions. Mrs. Wilson's greatest achievement for the National Capi tal was the passage of tho "alley bill" to clean out tho slums of Wash ington and give breathing and play ing space in their stead. Washington .was treated to the greatest aviation thrill ever exper ienced when, for the edification of the President, members of Congress and Army and Navy officials, Lincoln Beachy, called tho most daring of American aviators, gave an exhib ition, Hying over tho White House nnd the Capitol, looping the loop, taking thrilling slides and aviating upsdo down. Oregon Farmers Move Often. Washington, D. C. In compiling data for the last Federal census, the enumerators asked every farmer in Oregon this question: "How long have you lived on the farm you now oceu ny?" This question was answered by 42,004 of the 45,502 farm opera tors in this state. More than 12,000 stated that they had occupied their farms only one year or less; 10,503 from 2 to 4 years; 8,107 fro 5 to years and 11,001 10 years and over. The mos restless class of people in tho stale are the tenants who operate farms on share basis. There arc 3,- 172 of these farmers in tho state; '1,047 of them made answer to the query and their replies indicated that 1,550, or- about 20 per cent of them moved every year.
