To Hock Edison Avenue Aside from the consideration of a fire district the council's time was occupied with a discussion of the Im provement of Edison avenue from Fourth street to Seventh street. The improvement of the avenue will In clude sidewalk gutter and rocking. The rocking will probably be 18 feet In width the full length of the dis trict to be Improved. The city engi neer was ordered to prepare plans will be again brought up at the special session tonight and an Im provement ordinance passed for the district with an emergency clause at tached If the owners so deslro. The special meeting tonight will bo for the purpose of determining defi nitely upon the various phases con nected with the establishment of a fire district. As planned at last night's session the proposed district will Include all of the business dis trict commencing 100 feet west of Edison avenue on First street, extend ing 100 feet back on each side of First street from Edison avenue to Baltimore avenue (Street between Bandon Furniture Co. and Dreamland pavilion), also takes In 100 feet on each side of Wall street and Second street as far as Baltimore avenue. Such a district will mean that all buildings included in it must pass the city engineer's inspection and that all new building built in the district must be of the construction to bo designated. WELL-KNOWN BANDON RESIDENT SUCCUMBS Robert B. Hunnlcut, for the past eight years a resident of Bandon, died at the Emergency hospital Fri day afternoon, while undergoing an operation for congestion of the bow els. Mr. Hunnlcut was not aware of his trouble until the early part of the past week, he having been in the best of health up until that time. Deceased was born in Missouri, January 23, 1853, where he was mar ried. He came to Bandon in 190G and had since been occupied as a contractor and builder. He is sur vived by a wife and four children, three daughters and one son: Mrs. Nora M. Callaway of Kansas, Mrs. M. A. Phillips of California and Mrs. Duncan of Portland: J. A. Hunnlcut. Tho funeral services were held to day at the undertaking parlors, Itev. C. Mayne Knight assisted by Itev. Hartranft officiating. Tho body will bo shipped to Newburg, Oregon for interment. A raft of 150 cedar piling, valued at $1000, en route to Port Orford In tow of the tug Kllhyam, wont to pieces off Cape Blanco Thursday eve ning and was a total loss. Tho piling wore the property of tho Bandon Con struction company nnd were to have been used In the construction of the now $6,000 municipal dock at Port. Orford. A scow, loaded with con struction material, also in tow of the tug, was not damaged and was towed back to Bandon Friday morning. According to Captain Johnson, of the Kllhyam, the raft started to go to pieces very soon after crossing out over tho bar here and continued to break up until the tug dropped it near Cape Blanco. The raft was held together by a cable passed through holes in the ends of the piling and It is supposed that the rolling of the piling caused the cable to break soon after the raft crossed the bar at Bandon.
