E. J. Loney of Curry County is
making a quiet gentlemanly canvass
for the republican nomination for
Joint Representative, and he is mak
ing friends wherever he goes. Wo

New bids aro now being asked by
the government for carrying the mail
from Roseburg into Coos County.
No parcel post is being carried on
this route now, except from way sta
tions. The bond required from the
successful bidder is $20,000.
II. F. Gordon of Portland arrived
in Bandon Tuesday noon and visited
a couple of days with his sister, Mrs.
W. S. Wells. He left yesterday for
Marshficld where he expects to re
main for some time.
The Hugh Ilogan, which was groun
ded on the Siuslaw bar Tuesday of
last week, was floated Saturday and
is now undergoeing repairs. The
damage to tho vessel was not as great
as was at first thought.
Gus Bain, a barber of Marshfield,
fell over board from a launch in Coos
Bay Thursday of last week and was
drowned. Monday another drown
ing of similar nature occurred when
Geo. Catching fell from tho mail boat
at about the same place.

burg on the lower Coquillc in 1870
H8 years ago white cedar was the
wood used in her construction, and
tho condition of tho timbers of the
old tug today is another endorsement
of tho durability of what is known as
Port Orford Cedar, which is found in
