WITH THIRTEEN AFTER THE JOB. Salem,, Or., March 20. Practically the complete lineup of candidates for nil state officers is now known by the filings of declarations in the office of Secretary of State Olcott. As all completed nomination petitions must be fiVd" with tta Secretary of State nnt. later than April 10th, less than three weeks away, it is believed that not more than one or two more candi dates will Ret into the scramble for state nositions. Interest' centers in the fight for the gubernatorial nominations, and as the list ndw stands it appears that the fate of a number of candidates next May 15th, the day when the voter has his say about this election busi ness, will be charged up to that "hoo doo" number "13." Just 13 candi dates have filed declarations that they are willing to take the job of runninir the state as the chief ex ecutive ought to run it; and each, in the space of 100 words, has told how he intends to do Jt. As there is room for only three nominations, one Republican, one Democrat and one Progressive, some thing is going to happen- to ten of these ambitious men which is likely to bo laid to the door of poor little number "13". More candidates are irf the field for the principal office than ever before. Of the thirteen capdi dates for governor, eight are seek ing the Republican nomination, four the Democratic and ono the Progres sive. The next largest number of candidates for 1 office is in the third congressional district, comprised' of Multnomah county, where three .Re publicans, counting A. W. LafFerty, the present congressman from that district, two Progressives and lone Democrat are out after nominatidns. The office of Attorney General, which has been occupied by A. M, Craw ford for tho last 11 years, has at tracted four Republicans and one Democrat. ?
