The people of the Ccquille valley should get together for the
promotion and development of the great resources of this valley.
We have the garden spot of the earth; all we need is to GET BUSY
and push things along
Get some of the Coos Bay spirit of claiming everything that
belongs to southwestern Oregon. We are not condemning Coos
Bay for their claims, in fact we doff our hat to their neive, but
w hat we should do is to meet Coos Bay half way and show up the
resources of this valiey. and stand for the natural outlet for ail the
products of this valley—the mouth of the Coquille river. This is
the logical harbor for Coquille valley products and for incoming
freight to tlfis valley.
We have been sitting idly by and watching Coos Bay form a
Port Commission by a vote of about 5 to 1, then some trie J to
make the piint that Coos Bay | oople rushed into something that
they knew nothing about, and if the thing was to lx* dote over
again, the result under the present port law would be entirely dif­
ferent; but at the recent election, Coos Bay again came through
with a vote that will forev< r put the quietus on such rot, and voted
down the Bennett amendment, which was practically a destruction
of the |x>rt commission by the decisive vote of 91S to 503 or near­
ly 2 to t. At the same election they voted a $300,000 bond by
the overwhelming vote of 1277 for to 264 against, or almost 5 to
