You know Reddy keeps a v e ry close watch on Danny and where he goes and what be does, for Reddy long ago m ade up his mind that Just as sure as winds blow and rain falls som e day he would catch Danny M eadow Mouse. And because be bad failed so often he bad learned that he must know all about Danny’ s affairs in order to surprise him. So e v ery day he visited Danny's old home and hid where he could watcb and hear. O f course. Danny knew lust where R eddy was m ding. T h e m ore he watched and listened and thought the m ore suspi cious he grew He rem em b ered how he had surprised Danny and Nanny in another part of the G reen Mead ows w here N anny's old home was. He noticed that though he found Danny at his old home e v e ry m orn ing he n ever saw or heard an y thing o f him in the afternoons. At first he had supposed that Danny was taking an afternoon nap. but as his suspicions grew he m ade up his mind that Danny went som ew here else to spend his afternoons. “ O f course, he is with that other M eadow M ou se!” said Reddy, with a wicked sparkle In his eyes, and straigh tw ay he began to spend bis afternoons bunting around Nanny's old hom e where he had surprised Nanny and Danny that never-to-be- forgotten day. But though he hunt ed and hunted and found e v e r so m any p riva te little paths which he knew had been m ade by a M eadow Mouse, never once did be get a glim p se of Danny or Nanny, tor the v e ry good reason, as you and I know, that they w ere not there.
