He's just finish'«' a fine but modest-sized home on the lower slopes of the Holly wood hills. When I called ot. him Andy was in tbe backyard setting out trees and weedin. his strawberry patch. *T*ve done most of the work out here’’ he said with pride. "All those rock lined terraces took a lot of time but I had to make them to keep the rains front washing the yard all a- way. Before I got them in the mud rolled down and nearly bur ied the lawn." Although Clyde usually play» a man of 50 or more he’s really 10 years younger than that. You would hardly recognize him If you are familiar with the big drooping mustache worn in his comedies. Offstage he wears a cropped little mustache which was but a shadow of the mov- ie one he was wearing in a large framed picture which I saw in his large spacious living room . ’ V >des affections very appar- ently are quite evenly divided between his wife his two-year old son John Allen Clyde and his three pedigreed Scotties. He talk- ed about them all and with ta- tberly pride made his infant son demonstrate bis excellent vocab ulary. Young John not only could tell me his name but his street. city and state address. ______ 4 KB.- " Enlarged from portion of negative taken with a folding camera giving post- card size pictures. Exposure 1/100 second at f.11 en aupersensitive film, OMES the time every year when many of us make for the sea- ! shore for cool breezes, swimming. sauing. motorboating, fishing, and the many other pleasures that go w(th a sojourn by the sea. Any one can enjoy this fun with- out a camera, but verily to go to the seashore and return without having made a picture-story of your visit seems as useless as trying to write a book about It with water for Ink. When you have finished, your mem- ory may retain some of it for a time, but eventually you remember little else than the fact that you went there. Years later you will say, "Yes, I had a good time that summer,” but what did you do, whom were you with, what did you see? Bet a mil- IIon that w(th nothing in your snap- shot aibUm to show for it. you will remember scarcely anything of the : details of that good time, and re- gretfully wish you could, Another reason for taking your camera to the seashore is that where the sea Is, with Us bright reflecting w a t e r s , you have exceptional chances for making fine pictures. Q The tradition that nearly ev ery person in the world some where had a double will soon be strikingly shown on the , . mart -r» p1cturf^ n“ w being , " nce “ Hero, involves **asl or Present screen stars who had to be •’doubled." A- mong them you will see play- ers who are quite perfect “twins" of Afae West. Charlie Chaplin, Claudette Colbert, Irene Dunne, ^ . C. Fields, Eddie Cantor, Har old Uoyd, Victor McLaglen. Clark Gable. Bing Crosby and others. Richard Dix, who is the ! win also got a big ua .ci. star, plays himself. Usually by thn sea even on cloudy days you hav^ more light to work with than inland. The extra light gives you opportunity to “stop down" (use a smaller lens opening) and thereby obtain sharp, clear-cut details. Also there Is no better place for Interesting action pictures than a summer seaside resort, considering the many varieties of speed and motion that are In evidence— from sea snails to sea planes, not forget ting the high diving sea nymphs. In fact, except for the beach itself and the hotels, c o t t a g e s and wharves, everything seems to be In motion. Of course, if you want close- ups of fast action you should be equipped with a fast camera, but don't forget that splendid work with many seaside scenes is done with an inexpensive fixed focus camera. If it is rapid motion such as an approach- ing motorboat, shoot from an angle at a distance of 75 to 100 feet and usually you get It without blur. Then hare an enlargement made when you get home.
