Chief Buffalo Child Long Lance, author of the recently
published book of Americana, “Long Lance,” Chief of the
Blood Band of Blackfeet; a graduate of the Carlisle Indian
School and of the Manlius Military Academy, an athlete of
note and a former presidential appointee to \\ est Point, urges
the Indians of the country to vote for Hoover and Curti.,.
“By act of Congress In 1921 four
hundred thousand Indians were given
the right to vote for the first time In
the history of the United S tates," he
says. "Since this bill was passed too
late to allow the Indians to ballot in
the last Presidential election, the com­
ing election will m ark the first his­
toric occasion on which they will he
privileged to exercise th eir enfran­
chisem ent. The Indian tribes of the
United S tates have J 1,000,000,000—
one billion dollars—lying In the treas­
ury at W ashington. D P roach of
which is tied up by litigation.
“ Hence, of all the people of the United
S tates. It Is the American Indian who
most needs a friend a t W ashington.
While I am neither Republican nor
Democrat—Catholic nor P ro testan t—
[ advise the Indians to think, and
then vote for Senator C harles Cur­
tis. because it he, born on the Kaw
Indian R eservation of K ansas, Is not
a friend of the Indian. It Is safe to as­
sume th at we have none. I think It
is a coincidence th a t will become his­
toric. th at when the Indian Unds him ­
self voting for the first tim e he finds
him self privileged to vote for tho first
reservation-born Indian to be nomi­
nated for V ice-President.”
