Every newspaper reader sees ac­ counts oi m any murders, but few are able to follow the cases through to learn what really becomes of the killers, except in a few notable crimes. One of America's largest life insurance companies has stu d ­ ied the records coveting 146 cases in which its policyholders were killed by other persons. Here is what it found out: Of the 146 killers, 32 were found to have been justified in killieg. Of th e rem aining 114 killers, 45 were never indicted, as 22 com m it­ ted suicide, 15 are still at large aud | 8 were turned loose for lack of evidence. Of the 69 who were in­ dicted, 16 were acquitted, 11 were “ no tria l” cases, 1 was a mistrial. [ co th a t only 41 were found guilty, j Of the 41 found guilty, 35 are serving prison terms, 6 cases have been appecled, 3 have been granted new tria ls. 1 was paroled, 1 paid a fine— and 1 paid the death penalty.
