A m undsen's record is unique in
th a t he discovered the South Pole
and the magnetic pole, and also
attained the N orth Pole. H azing
accomplished these feats of daring,
he retired to his native Norway at
the age of 5<i to spend the rem aind­
er of bis life in quiet.
B ut the plight of Nobile, bis
companion of the Norge (light
across the N orth Pole, with whom
he had hud a spirited controversy,
roused the d auntless Amundsen,
who im m ediately came from his
seclusion to join in the senreh.
W hile Nobile was re-cued by others
Amundsen perished. At any event
he has not been heard from, and a
h it "f wreckage from his plane,
found weeks later, apparently
leaves n o d n u b l as to hie tragic fate.
His record as a polar explorer
enn never be duplicated, so far as
pioneering is concerned. He is the
only one to reach three poles —
N orth, South and m agnetic—and
although others may in fu tu re a t­
tain all three, A ihttnds n’sp rio rity
will stand for all time.

Two H ilsey youngsters aged 10
and 11 years, are the possessors of
13 prizes won at the county fair

UST about a year ago we published, in your
advertising columns, a message in which we
sought to give you and your readers an idea of
what General Motors is and what it is trying to
accomplish. At that time the public was purchas­
ing our cars at the rate of about one in every tliree;
and our Frigidaire automatic refrigerator and
Delco-Light electric plants were leading in popular
preference in their respective fields.

Since then each of our car divisions has intro­
duced new, further improved models and public
patronage has reached the point where almost
one out of two automobiles purchased is a General
Motors car. Frigidaire and Delco-Light products
have showed comparable increases in sales.
We are particularly impressed with the number
of letters which have come to us from editors
of small city newspapers during recent months.
These editors, who are in a position to reflect
local sentiment, speak of the goodwill which
attaches to General Motors in their communities
