can equalize the resistance
by increasing the angle of the

This prevents crowding and

frames are built with double

Perhaps tho test method of approach
is to relate the achievements accomp
lished in some neighborhoods by a rural
school that has been efficient and ic
cessful and where tho teach r has de
velopcd a high degree of soma unity
leadership. The effect on the social
life of the eominuuity has frequently
been far-reaching and important.
The study of problems of agriculture
and domestic science by the pupils and
their demonstration upon tho farm has
taught many a parent invaluable les
sons that he had thought himself too
old to learn. Tho organization of corn
clubs, pig clubs and calf dubs has stim
elated private initiative, brought home
the value of scientific training, en
eouraged business methods and systems
of accounting, provided profitable nnd
interesting employment during vacation
periods, increased the production of the
community, and established habits of
thrift, foresight and frugality, that will
yield largo dividends through life.
Tho development of the idea of the
civic center with the gathering to
gether of the people of the community,
has helped to restore to farm life
Something of the old thrills aud com
radeships that gave the bright and
glowing colors to farm life in the old
days of barn raisings and husking bees
In these gatherings they thrash out
their common problems, study out co
operative methods for their improve
meats, and as they unite in the solu
tlon of their common problems, they
learn anew the joy and thrill of com
moif enterprise.
There seems to be no limit to the
dynamic force that can bo generated
through the developments of commun
ity consciousness. Such a revolution in
a rural community means a spiritual
and social regeneration of rural life
Farm life passes from a competition in
drudgery to a competition in business
management and scientific effort. Bar
ren isolation gives nay to cooperative
effort. Study, community activity and
Intelligent planning afford alluring
variations from the monotony of man

Who knows Lincoln-the Suitor—the Husband-the Father?
Who knows the story of his marriage to Mary Todd and their
later trials and triumphs.
Only a small group of intimate relatives have had access
to Lincoln’s heart and home, and now these relatives—the
family of Mary Todd—have broken t he silence of sixty years
to write this great romance, the story of “ Mary, Wife of
Lincoln,” by Kate Helm, her niece. The first big installment
of this touching, tragic story will ap
pear in the May number of McCall’s
Magazine.
