T he m a te ria ls for th is sp ray a re one
and one-half gallons of com m ercial
liquid lim e-sulphur und one pound of
pow dered lead a rse n a te to SO gallons
of w ater. In p re p arin g th e sp ra y put
the lluie-sulphor in th e w a te r In the
sprayer. A fter it Is thoroughly mixed,
add the a rse n a te o f lead, which has pre­
viously been well m ixed w ith a sm all
am ount of w a ter. H ave th e a g ita to r
running w hen both m a te ria ls ure add­
ed. T h a sp ray should l>e applied as
soon ns possible a f te r adding th e lend
to prevent th e fo rm atio n of a black
sludge due to the chem ical action of
the lim e-sulphur a n d th e lead. C lean
the sprny tan k before each tilling.
If hom em ade lim e-sulphur solutlou
is used, it should prove Just us effec­
tive a? th e com m ercial if teste d w ith
a h y d ro m eter and d ilu tio n s m ade ac ­
cordingly.
Some hom e o rc h a rd ists may desire
to use com m ercial dry lim e-sulphur,
becuuse o f th e difficulty of securing
th e liquid product in sm all q u an tities.
A bout fo u r pounds of d ry lim e-sulphur
may be used in 50 gallo n s of w uter.
A rsen ate o f lead should be added at
the r a te o f one pound to 50 gallons
re g ard less o f th e kind of lim e-sulphur
used. L iquid lim e-sulphur, w here it
can be o btained, is recom m ended.
