herbs, and seasoning, and conk one-half
hour longer. T h is recipe will serve five
people. Rice can be used in place of
barley.

grees F a h re n h e it) in a th in loaf.
C o ttage pudding is usually served
hot w ith a sa m e , which may tie hot or
cold. It m ay he h ard sauce, w hipped
cream , c hocolate sauce, a canned or
stew ed fruit sauce, or one o f the slight­
ly thickened hot sauces such as lemon,
orange, raisin, or vanilla, w hich some­
tim es have egg or co rn starc h as the
thickening agent. Sm all am ounts of
canned fru it may he utilized to a d ­
vantage in such a sauce, as. for ex­
am ple, som e leftover canned pineapple
or peaches.
A cupful of nut m eats, seeded
raisins, su lta n a s, dried c u rra n ts, or
d a te s m ay he added to plain cottage
pudding h a tte r to m ake a more elab­
o ra te dessert. E xcept for tiie su ltan a s

chopped into convenient pieces and
