rangements, have brought togethei

two to 60 will recognize as ideal
three cartoons, two comedies, tw<
travellogues, and one adventuri
feature. These wlil be shown in th«
third and fourth grade room on th<
school’s sound projector. Parent?
are cordially invited.
There will be no admittanci
charge, but those who wish may
contribute a small amount in ordei
to start a fund for further movies.
This is the first of a monthly
series of childrens entertainments
sponsored by the O’Brien PTA,
with not only films, but dancing
games and other surprises in store
for the future. Planned for the
first Friday in each month, Janu­
ary must necessarily be dark, as
the date falls during Christmas
vacataion.
What with dances, carnivals
banquets, movies and open house
teas, it would seem that O’Brien
School has become the center of
community activity. We under­
stand the Friday night Square
Dance was a bang-up success with
almost more people than space
and everyone sad when the last
waltz shooed them home. Members
of the Shamrock (Tub voted on a
weekly Friday night dance with
the second planned for November
28 at 8 p.m.
Valley folk dancers are seldom
idle as the Stampeeders, O’Brien
Womens’ Club group hold weekly
Wednesday night practice sessions
and square and round dances
every other Saturday. Their next
two get-togethers are on Decem­
ber 3 and 6.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Perez and
their two small children are new
residents of O'Brien. Originally
from Cave Junction, they have
bought a home in this district.

ing with Mrs. Wieting’s mother
and step-father, Mr. and Mrs.
Blaine Turner.
Mrs. Pearl Johnson of Idyll-
wild is expected home from the
hospital this week. She was seri-
ously injured in an automobile
accident at Kerby nearly a month
Mrs. Marie Wilson will open
the Hotel' Drews and cafe next
Saturday, December 3. Mrs. Wil-
son came from Medford where
she has lived for the last five
years.
Long-Time Selma
Resident Dies
Funeral services for I.aura Eliz­
abeth Hogue, 65, of Selma, were
held Wednesday, Nov. 23 at the
chapel of the L. B. Hall Funeral
Home. Interment followed in Hill­
crest Memorial park. She died in
Josephine General hospital, Sun­
day, Nov. 23.
Mrs. Hogue came to Selma in
1904 as the bride of William A.
Hogue, who survivies her.
She is also survived by an aunt,
Mrs. Ralph Scott, of Elk Grove,
Calif; and three nephews living
n Weed, Calif.
Independent Hockey Team
Wins, Ties and Loses
A win, a tie and a loss resulted
for the Southwestern Oregon In­
dependents field hockey team in i
the northwest conference Nov. 15
and 16 in Eugene.
Miss Hazel Peterson and Mrs.
Gloria LeVan, physical education
instructors at IVHS and Kerby
Grade school, respectively, were
members of the team that won 3-2
over University of Oregon and
tied 2-2 with Oregon State College.
Their defeat was at the hands
of a Vancouver, British Columbia
team, 3-0.
The Independents team was
made up of teachers from here,
Roseburg, Grants Pass, Ashland
and Eugene.
Mr. and Mrs. Curly Robinson
and Mr. and Mrs. George Ingle
entertained about 40 guests at a
private party last Saturday night
at Elk Creek Lodge.

amazes us to no end how those
women met. discussed everything
from the high price of pot roasts
to the low boiling point of dinner-
minded husbands and yet miracou-
lousy turned out such well groov­
ed plans that not one cog slipped
in the machinery of feeding the
multitude that decended on the
school last Thursday
