Sparks died suddenly yesterday (Thursday) morning at 5 o’clock in Josephine General hospital. The regular business meeting of the PTA was held following the panel discussion, with refresh ments ending the evening. Representing the student body of the panel were Hugh Blue and Charline Bliss. Merle Preston and Mrs. Harold Crowl spoke from the parents’ viewpoint. Max McMillian District Attorney and Les Tyth cott, Deputy Sheriff, presented the standpoint of the “law” and Rev. Paul Kroon, of Cave Junction Community Church and Father Linehan, from Medf-ord Catholic parish represented the "church" in the discussion. The city, through Charles Hub- hard now on leave of absence, filed the writ of mandamus against Mrs. Small in an effort to obtain cer tain records claimed hy the admin istration to have never been turned over to Hubbard. --------------o - - Annual Dance Scheduled By Cemetery Board The Laurel Cemetery Associa tion is planning for its annual Thanksgiving dance, to be given on Thanksgiving eve, Nov. 26, at the American Legion hall in Cave Junction. This is the only money-making affair undertaken by the Associa tion for the year and the funds made from this dance are used in making further improvements on the cemetery premises. At the present time a water system is being planned by the Board of Directors, starting with a drilled well, which will include the purchase of an electric pump and pressure tank. Also electricity will have to be brought to the pump house. Whenever funds are available the system will be extend ed over the cemetery grounds. Improvements to date include a painted board fence; clearing and leveling of a new section of the grounds and seeding with grass seed suitable for the plot; construc tion of a rocked loop road from the north to the south entrance; the two toilets have been moved, repaired and painted; a new tool house has been built and painted the clearing of a portion of the cemetery property adjacent to the entrance to provide parking and picnicking space; picnic tables have been built. A sexton is maintained and subject to call at all times. He does general clean-up work be sides actual funeral work. -------------- n------------- California Couple Hurt: Cars Crash Stalled Line A California couple was hospit alized with injuries received when their car skidded on a curve two miles north of Kerby, left the road, and jumped the bank Wed nesday morning. John W. Beatty of Van Nuys, Calf., was taken to Josephine Gen eral hospital by Valley Ambulance where he was reported to he suf fering from a head concussion. His wife had numerous injuries including a broken arm. While traffic was stalled at th" scene, two other cars on separate occasions plowed into the rear of waiting vehicles. ■. —.... ■ o-------------- Foot ball Queen to Be Crowned Tonight A Football Queen will be chosen by members of the IVHS football team this week and Her Majesty will be crowned by Captain Orlen Pickle during the half-time acti vities of tonight’s Crescent City- IVHS game here under the lights. Chosen from the senior class, the Queen will have a court of two princesses, one from the junior class, one from the senior. Following the game, the Pep Club is sponsoring a dance in the school gym, free to all alums ■ nd the student body. Chief advantage of the larger building was to be the increased amount of mail boxes. Postmaster Arnold has yet to l»e informed of the amount of box es which have been ordered I or the larger quarters but expects the major portion of the local gen eral delivery problem to he elim inated. Finishing touches to the new building are being made this week including the lettering on the front of the building in preparation for the Sunday move. The move will cause no changes in the local postal staff which in cludes in addition to Arnold who works full time, three part-time personnel. Arnold plans to fix up the old building so it can be rented at a future date. Local agitiation for larger quar- ters began about a year ago in hopes more working space and more mail boxes would eliminate the bottlenecks in service existing under present conditions. The building was contracted by Roh Ford of Cave Junction and was built of pumice blocks. ------------- o-------------- Two Youths Hurt In Auto Wreck Gerald Chappell, on leave from the navy, and PollyJIolm. daughter of R. H. Holm, route 1, received minor injuries in an automobile accident 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when their car reportedly failed to make a curve on the Cemetery Rd. The two youths were treated by Dr. Charles Versteeg and Chappell was taken to Josephine General hospital by his father, George Chappell for further observation. ------------- o-------------- Board Allows Funds For Leveling at IVHS The county school board Monday night approved funds for the lev eling of the north side portion in front of the high school in prepara tion for planting.
