VALLEY IRRIGATION
Valley men attending the Oregon
Reclamation Congress in Medford
last week were given the most up-to-
date information available on the pro
gress being made by the bureau of
reclamation on the Rogue River ir
rigation project and more specifical
ly the dam eventually planned for the
Illinois Valley.

Persons interested in the growth
of agricultural activity here will note
with satisfaction that plans for the
dam have been kept alive due to local
interest, and the presence of survey
ors seeking feasible dam sites.
Although sufficient irrigation wa
ter is now available for acreage under
cultivation, a few farsighted Valley
men have contemplated an eventual
shortage and have sparkplugged a
campaign to get bureau of reclama
tion aid in the planning and construc
tion of an irrigation dam which would
keep pace with the increasing inter
est and activity in Valley agriculture.
The NEWS feels Valley leaders
should accept the offer of the state
director of the bureau of reclamation
to meet at an early date with persons
interested in the future of Valley ir
rigation in attempting to explain
what has, is and will be done.
A local meeting on a subject so
vital to the Valley is needed to erase
past rumors dealing with the future
of agriculture here and to replace
the lack of specific Rogue River pro
ject information available to the gen
eral public in the past.

Ambled over to Bob’s Restau
rant Tuesday fur lunch and noticed
a new sign "Left Ham Sandwich,
•10« ... Right Ham Sandwich, 30«..”
"Why the sign. Bob?” I asked.
"Don’t tell me you believe hogs
scratch more with their right leg
than with their left — so’s the left
ham is more tender?”
"No,” he says. "I don’t take any
stock in it. But, some people have
ordered those ‘left* sandwiches.
When 1 explain to them that
there’s nothing to that fable, that

a regular, old fashioned, plain ham
sandwich all the more!”
From where I sit, stories like
“right” hams being tougher than
"left" ones are with us because
some people get ideas into their
head and hang onto them for dear
life. It's like those who think an
adult like myself hasn't the right
to a glass of beer with my supper.
I say let's keep our opinions free
from being “sandwiclied-in” by
misinformation.
