Hovanskis Give Halloween Party Mrs. Helen Bott«l (Leave News at O'Brien Store) O'BRIEN — Trick-or-treaters young and old celebrated Hallo ween in high style when ^oe and Vera Hovanski, new managers of Elk Creek Cafe, threw open their doors to the community on October 31. Between calling squares for the dancers, "Joe and Vera’’ served candy flavors, bal loons, sandwiches and coffee, and provided a thoroughly enjoyable evening for everyone. The Hovanski’s, realizing that there are few local amusements for teenagers, plan to open a weekly dance at their cafe, where only soft drinks will be served. They also operate Joe and Vera’s Grocery at Elk Creek. Contributions are being solici ted for a Community Fall Gospel Church near Elk Creek, with Rev. and Mrs. Clayton Carver as minis ters. Ronald Abbey, of Patricks Creek was tapped by Uncle Sam last Wednesday. Until his induc tion into the Army he was em ployed by his father at Trout Haven Hatchery. Friday, November 7, 1952 The American Red Cross Blood- mobile unit will visit Grants Pass on November 14. This will be the only visit for the blood bank in Josephine County for the balance of the year. The bloodmobile will be station ed at the Grants Pass Junior High School gymnasium from 2 to 8 p.m. The large unit is coming from Portland expressly for this sche dule drawing of 500 pints of blood. Donors from the Illinois Valley will be needed and are urged to make this visit a big success by ex erting every effort to donate in Grants Pass on November 14. Baby sitters well be furnished for those finding it necessary to bring their children with them. Those donors having a malaria history will be accepted because their blood is used for plasma. “Tell your neighbors and bring your friends,” urged Harold Bow erman. head of Red Cross work in the Valley. The heavy fighting in Korea has made huge inroads in the available supply of blood. Don ors without transportation are re quested to contact Harold Bower man at the ranger station or call 0803. -o- Mrs. Tex Clifford and Mrs. Les Henry presented a beautiful American flag to the primary room from the American legion Auxili ary No. 7 of Cave Junction.
