OUR “GROWING CITY”
There has been a noticeable in
crease in Valley business activity as
the last quarter of 1952 begins ticking
off.
The establishment of new busi
nesses and professions within the
past month in Cave Junction not only
renews the faith of those far-sighted
enough to see a bright future here,
but destroys the old, tired rumor that
Cave Junction is a “closed” town to
new businesses.
Valley residents can look forward
to even additional business enterpris
es within the next year which will
tend to decrease the rapidly-dimin
ishing list of needed businesses, ser
vices and professions desired by pat
rons of any shopping center.
The painting and expansion of
several local businesses confirms a
statement made recently by a painter
Help the ILLINOIS
VALLEY
that Valley customers are getting
more particular about the appear
ance and facilities offered by Cave
Junction businessess. Unfortunately
some landlords are limiting the suc
cess of businesses through negligence
of building appearance and mainten
ance.
Opposing city political factions
could capitalize on needed improve
ments which might be of aid to both
businessmen and patrons of this ex
panding shopping center through the
medium of campaign promises—that
is, promises which could reasonably
be expected to materialize with their
election into office. Concrete side
walks on both sides the length of
Main Street is a “high priority” ex
ample.
As badly needed, but not within
'the realm of city government, is a
“live-wire” Valley commercial organ
ization on the nature of a chamber
of commerce.
We’re even looking forward to a
dental appointment—one with a Cave
Junction dentist that is. If current ef
forts of the medical center board suc
ceed even this unusual experience
may be possible in the near future.
Even a story in Sunday’s Oregon
ian took note of local growth in an
article on Cave Junction’s first at
torney when it labeled the town as the
“growing city of Cave Junction,”
which is good medicine to appease
temporary pains which occasion a
minority of Valley residents and
businessmen prone to criticize ex
isting conditions. Not only could
“things” be much worse, but they’re
getting better daily!
