VFW Auxiliary Presents Flag to Boys Home News from the CAVES by Lucy Jam«« I am sorry I didn’t get our bit of news in soon enough for last week's paper. We had an interest ing week with different groups of the Christian Church’s annual Young People’s Conference visit ing us from their camp at Gray- back; Mrs. Ralph Cake and her son of Portland and Mrs. Wendell L. Willkie of New York City spent a couple of days with us; Mr. and M rs. Martin R. Sachse and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Loesch came up for din ner one evening. And there was a lot of excite ment when one of the boys was tos sed in the fish pool by his fellow workers because he gave his frat ernity pin to one of the girl crew members. Also it was Mr. C. G. Gemi^n- hardt’s first visit to Oregon when he came to the caves from Nebras ka to visit his daughter and son-in- law Mr. and Mi's. Glen Happel. Al so in the group were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mueller and son Jim, and Ray Thomas, all of Nebraska. Mr. Mueller is Mrs. Happel’s sister. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Clayton of A large American flag was pre sented the James Boys Home at Bridgeview July 30 by the Veter ans of Foriegn Wars Auxiliary to post No. 4390 of Cave Junction. Post President Irene George presented the flag to Mrs. Leta James, owner of the home. The flag will be raised on the new flag pole at the home. Mrs. James ex pressed her appreciation for the gift, as it was necessary for the home to have a flag before it could be recognized as a standard school. Auxiliary members attending the ceremony included Priscilla Mellow, Kathryn Raines, Jewell Clayton and Irene George and Enid Burch. Mr*. Burch is the school teacher at the James Boys home. ------------------ 0------------------ Joins Husband Mrs. Jimmy Quinn left Wednes day evening to join her husband in Alameda, Calif at the Navy base where he is stationed. The Quinns were married recently when Jimmy was home on leave. Carl Verateeg- en, her father, drove her to Ala meda. Woodland Echoes, and Mr. and Mrs. Forest Pettit of Medford were here for dinner one evening Iasi week. Shower Given for Buckles Sisters by Mri. Frita Krau«« Ph. Selma 621 SELMA—A double shower for the Bucklev sisters was held last Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. A. E. Sandell with Mrs. P. N. Blue. Mrs. L. H Weiss and Mrs. R. R. McKinstry eo-hostesses. Norma Buckles who will be mar- reid to Earl Bolinger, Aug. 29, was honoree for a Bridal shower and her sister Arline, Mrs. R. Rains was honoree for a stork shower. A short reading was given and the gifts were opened. Cookies, punch, coffee and watermelon was serv ed to the following guests: Mary Buckles, Margie Simington, Ro berta and WillaAnn Krauss, Clara Hammer, Esina King, Blanche Lee, Stella Stengel, Charline and Debra Breazeale, Emma Stire, l.uella Taylor, Ruby McFarland, Jennie Tuttle. Margaret Carlisle, Grace, Judy and Sharon Work, Flossie Hamilton, Peggy and Bonnie Co- lee, Charlotte Tyron, Roberta Wil lis and daughter, Thelma Lund quist, Ester Short, Rosalie Sie- fert and her mother, Amy Conger, Minerva, Bonnie Ann and Jacque- lin Anderson, Ruby Riggan, Zelda Stevenson. Margaret Amer, Grace and Jackie Strohkirch, Ella and Bobby Henderson, Edna Cooper, from Grants Pass were; Mrs. W. Williams, Maude Hogue, Etta Lowden and Eva Bolinger and Janie Holahauser. from Cave Junc tion. More than 20 gift» were sent by those who were unable to at tend. Wednesday afternoon Norma Buckles was guest of honor at a shower given by Janie Holzhouser and her sister Shirley Wells at Cave Junction. Games were play ed and refreshments servd to the following, Elva Trefethen, Fay Snider. Margie Brown, Dolores Nolan. Lois Campbell, Joanie Eisen, Jackie Scholz, Vivian Thes- ham, Daisy Nassen, Eva Bolinger and Mary Buckles. Sending gifts were Merril Simington, Flora Sandell, Clair and Darline Cooper, JoAnn Taylor and Jonelle Benge. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wright and Helen Calpel of Inglewood, visited last week with the Russell Cooper family. Mr. and Mrs. Lex Kiggan Jr. Irave as their guests her mother from Chicago Illinois. Lowell Prewitt is here visiting his brother J. B. Prewitt and nep hew Tex Prewitt andfa mily.
