BACK THE JUBILEE
Members of the American Legion
and a couple of other organizations
have already begun preparations and
plans for what they expect to be the
largest three-day Jubilee celebration
ever attempted in Cave Junction.
The Legion has the task of care
fully organizing the details to assure
a smooth programming of entertain
ment events being brought into Cave
Junction from all over the state for
the August 30, 31 and Sept. 1 affair.
'file support and unsolicited aid
from many Valley organizations and
persons is the only guarantee of suc
cessful Labor Day weekend festivi
ties. Then when the big three days of
the Jubilee arrive Valleyites should
turn out by the hundreds to compen
sate for the many manhours of labor
and planning behind such an extens
ive event.
The Legion is to be lauded for at
tempting a show' that they hope will
put Cave Junction on the map. We
WHAT BREAK?
The first break in the turbulent
unfortunate history of the city water
department came to the city council
this week by accident.
With increased usage of the
city water supply during dry sum
mer days, the two reservoirs drained
dry Friday unnoticed by the water
master. Spurred by frantic phone
calls about the lack of water pressure,
city authorities not only found two
dry tanks, but a thick layer of red
mud on the floors and walls of the
reservoirs, which they now believe to
be the source of dirty water periodic
ally raising the ire of Cave Junction
housewives during the past three
months.
The town fathers only wish that
this was the one and only problem to
lick concerning the city’s costly and
deficit-operating water system. This
important city government depart
ment has been the source of so many
gray hairs for the five councilmen,
mayor and recorder since taking of
fice they’ve decided to unload some of
the burden on the shoulders of any
one who will listen to their tales of
woe.
By council action, citizens are in
vited to attend a special public meet
ing July 28 to learn the facts about
the department’s stormy past and un
certain future.
What the Republicans are won
dering now is whether the attempt at
high pressure politics which beat Sen
ator Taft will also backfire for the
Democrats in November?
