Now we must turn our thoughts to other im nortant items. Two very important terns in successful gardening are rrigation and pest control. First of all, let’s briefly discuss the most important methods of ir rigation employed in our cqunty. No. 1—Frequent light irriga tion. No. 2—Less frequent thorough irrigation. How the water is applied is of little importance. If water is avail able under pressure, sprinkling is asiest and satisfactory on all crops ilt hough, it causes some cracking ind mold on tomatoes and straw berries. I’nderwatering is much more •ommon than overwatering when vou use sprinklers. In sprinkler ir rigation. one inch of water should be applied approximately every 5 I lays during hot summer weather. I This can be determined by setting a straight sided can midway out in , the -prinkled area till the water in the can, or vessel, is one inch deep. ! Let sprinklers run that long every ■ five days. If your garden is so located that . vou can flood irriga'e or run water down the rows. that is the best method of irrigation for most ■'lants. In watering this way, you should use a very small stream so u not to wash the soil. The water penetration to a desired 15 inches ■'ill result in practically the same time with considerably less water o Return from Redding TREHEARNE'S We Give S A H Green Stampe Cave Junction Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Quinn.
