him down and think him dead, only ‘
to see him get up and flap away

Official confirmation of a new
world's record for an Alaskan
Brown Bear has been given to Bob
Reeve of Anchorage, Alaska, for
a giant Brownie he killed on May
26, 1948, near Cold Bay.
Weighing 1,800 pounds, with a
pelt 12 feet 4 inches in width and
10 feet 4 inches in length, the
Brownie was killed with a Model
95 Winchester lever action in 405
caliber. Reeve took two shots at
approximately 270 yards with 300-
grain soft point bullets to bring
down his record breaker. Reeve's
first shot broke the animal's left
hip and his second penetrated both
shoulders and killed the bear In
stantly.

Fishermen around Jamestown,
N. Y., are beginning to despair of
ever capturing "M innie Methuse
lah." That's the name of a muskel-
lunge residing in Chautauqua Lake
which measures 42 inches long.
“ M innie" was last netted by
state conservation officers in 1945,
which was when they learned her
dimensions. She was first netted In
