Friends of Emma Lemm are
happy to learn that she is out of
the hospital again and recuperat­
ing at the home of Helen Erkhart
for a time. Emma wishes to ex­
press her thanks to friends for
the cards, and flowers sent her
while she was confined in the hos­
pital. It brightened her days con­
siderably.
A number of the O’Brien school
children are now enjoying their
hot lunches at Melody Lane which
recently opened to the public P.t
O'Brien. Mothers are also enjoy­
ing the change from lunch pack-

W ear Spectacles!
Yes, it’s a fact I Sam’s brood of
two dozen hens are wearing spec­
tacles—which he bought from a
mail-order house in Capitol City.
Sam says it works (and big
poultry raisers say so, too). The
hens see each other through soft
colored glasses, and instead of
fighting and picking at each other,
they go around placidly, gain
weight, and lay more eggs.
Makes me almost wish we could
have rose-colored glasses for hu­
man beings, too. So that instead of
quarreling and criticizing, like we

do so much of the time, we’d live
and let live in contentment.
From where I sit, the human
race wastes a powerful lot of time
in wrangling over minor issues . . .
whether a man should drink beer
or cider... whether a woman should
wear slacks or sk irts. . . instead of
seeing each other through "spec­
tacles” of tolerance that enable
us to live-and-let-live like Sam’s
brood of chickens.

The Ramblers enjoyed a pot­
luck barbecued steak dinner,
topped off by fried spuds, cake,
cookies and coffee at the home
of Cora Masoner on the westside
road last Friday. After lunch the
group looked over a site of land
w'hich Mr. and Mrs. Chester
Gilliam have offered to give the
Ramblers for a club house. As
many of the members and some
local residents are interested in
fast horses, it is hoped a quarter
