Russia’s rate of increase in popu­
lation by births is three times that
of the United States, nearly nine
times that of England and Wales
and more than four times Scot­
land’s. Among 40 nations, only three
surpass Russia. They are Formosa,
with ■ percentage increase on 1,000
births of 24.8; Mexico with 20 5, and
Puerto Rico with 19.8. Russia's rate
is 18 8.
