Traffic Deaths Now
Average One a Day
Oregon traffic again reached
the tragic death average of one n
day during the last half of Au
gust, following the end of the war.
Secretary of State Robert S. Far-
rell said today. It was the first
time since 1911 that Oregon traf-
fic reached this fatality average.
Fifteen fatalities were reported
during the last 16 days of the
month. There were only seven
fatalities during the last 15 days
of August, 1944, the toll this yea-

"Greater numbers of vehicles,
resulting in heavier congestion on
highways and streets, and higher
travel pace, are the chief factor.*
