I was disappointed that the appropria tions committee did not increase the regular appropriation for for est products Research. In its re port, the committee justifies its action by expressing the belief that such research funds will be avail able from the various war appro priations during the next fiscal year. I hope their assumption is correct, but 1 am inclined to doubt it. However, it still may be pos sible to have additional research funds included when the bill is considered by the Senate, or need ed appropriations can be made in a deficiency bill later. Add this to the thousands of uses of forest products: sap from Aus tralian milkwood trees is used to stupefy fish in waterholes so they may be easily caught.
