ment to allow holders of U S. War Bonds, to go to the
banks and cash them immediately, has proven a very
dangerous plan for the treasury department.
This plan was made so that the bonds would be
come more valuable to the holders, knowing that they
could cash them immediately, they are as good as
money in the bank. Before this plan, it took about 1<
days to send them to San Francisco to get your money
on the bonds, and this inconvenience the department
waived so the bonds could be easily cashed.
Instead of having the effect the treasury depart
ment believed would be used, the bonds have been
cashed so far ahead of their surrender value that it
has become alarming to government officials.
The new plan is another reason for holding your
bonds. If you do not absolutely need the money, hold
your bonds. This is just as important as selling them.
If they are not held, another drive must be made to sell
more bonds. If you cash your bonds you are hamper
ing the war effort. The government does not want
you to cash your bonds now, except in extreme cases
of emergency.
Be patriotic and hold your bonds and earn the in
terest they draw. Help the war effort and help your
self at the same time. The boys on the front line can’t
cash their bonds. We should do as much at home.
