THE WAR AND BONDS
Why should we buy bonds to help prosecute the
war? . It may seem to some that the war will go on
just the same whether we buy bonds or not. Sure it
will, for there are enough red blooded Americans who
WILL buy enough bonds to keep the wheels moving.
But that is not good cricket—This is a job for all
of us—Every One. And buying bonds is helping your
self as well as the country. You are NOT giving
away money, you are investing it and will receive in
terest on your investment and Uncle Sam’s bonds are
good investment. If they are not, your business isn’t
any good, your job isn’t any good, nothing will be
good, if the Nation’s bonds are not good. So you are
investing your money, (saving it, too) for the great
est cause in the world—That this country will endure
the way we want it after the war.
The Government is asking each salaried man to
buy an extra $100 bond, investing your money and
saving it at the same time, so that after the war you
can do the many things you have wanted to do for a
long time. This money will be available to you when
ever you want it—00 days after it is purchased, and
if you keep it until after the war, you will have the
additional sum of interest tacked on. that the bond
has earned.

stay and dance to celebrate the
presentation of such an honor to
one of our own men.

local post and Ladies Auxiliary in
an appetizing lunch in the Auxil
iary quarters after which they re
joined the others and danced un
til midnight.

OUR FORESTS
ARE TINDER DRY
An extended forest season and
drying East winds have combined
to make the forest lands of the
Illinois valley tinder dry.
The nation is dependent upon
war supplies from our forests.
These must not be interrupted or
destroyed by fire. Our payrolls
of today and tomorrow are also
dependent upon the prevention of
fires.
The people of the Illinois valley
have cooperated fully’ in fire pre
vention this season. This is great
ly appreciated by the State and
Federal Forest Services.
We
should not rest upon our oars now.
We must be all the more vigilant
to prevent the occurance of a
disastrous fire.
