THE CHAMBEE OF COMMERCE
There is a concerted (hive on for members of the
Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce. The body
needs 100 members to do vhat is expected of the or
ganization.
If you do not want to, ir you find it impossible to
attend the weekly noon luncheons, subscribe for a
membership anyway, for it will materially help in
mapping out a program that should go a long way in
developing the natural re ources of the valley.
The chamber is not a (' ive Junction affair. It be
longs to the entire valley, and anything that is good
for the valley is good for the chamber to help get go
ing. So subscribe for a membership or two if you
can, and help make the organization.
With the entire valley participating and attending
meetings when possible, the I. V. Chamber should be
able to do some fine miss onary work and get some
activities started. It can be done.

PROMISE
I stand on the edge of the lily pond at night. It is
as dark as I have seen it. I have come out for a last
breath of air before the dry is snatched from me for
ever. Overhead the gleam of the stars remind me of
a line, 1 know not who uttered it: “The darkest night
the world has ever known did not put out the stars.”
There is a tremendous philosophy packed into that
single sentence: in it is the essence of all the progress
which mankind has made -and it is a brave line. It
speaks the faith and the almost futile hope of those
souls who stumble and fall—and get up again—and
go on—and lead the world forever.
We cannot help despair at times, but we can re
member the promise of the stars!
