BUY A POPPY IS
SLOGAN SATURDAY
An appeal to all patriotic citi-
zens to wear a poppy on Saturday
was issued today by Milt Akrill,
Commander of Glenn
Morrison
Post of the American Legion. De
scribing the poppy as a badge of
patriotism, Commander Akerill
asked that it be worn by everyone
in the city during the annual ob
servance of Poppy Day to show
a united front for America.
In his appeal the Legion Com
mander said:
“The poppy is the
memorial
flower of our comrades who fell in
France. We wear it to honor their
memory and to aid those who were
disabled, their families and the
families of the dead. Wearing the
poppy is our individual way of

I showing that we remember and are
grateful for the sacrifice made in
the cause of patriotism.
“Symbolic of life sacrifice for
America, and made by men who
have sacrificed health and strength
for the country, the memorial pop
py is a true badge of patriotism.
With our country again facing
grave dangers, we need to wear
the badge and to wear it with sin-
cere devotion to the things for
which it stands, Therefore I am
appealing to all patriotic citizens
of Illinois Valley to join with the
American Legion and the Ameri
can Legion auxiliary in the ob
servance of Poppy Day on Satur
day, May 24. by wearing an Ameri
can Legion memorial poppy.”
The poppies, which have been
made at Roseburg will be distribu
ted throughout the city Saturday

GRANTS PASS
A deal was consumated recently
whereby Mr. and Mrs. Mavrin
Cross sold their 40 acre ranch, lo
cated on the Takilma road between
Bridgeview and Takilma, at the
junction of the Dick George road,
to Mrs. Ethel Miller of Los An
geles. Mrs. Miller has been here
some time living in the old Brooks
home just off the Caves highway
about a quarter of a mile from the
junction.
As soon as the deal was complet
ed, Mr. and Mrs. Cross moved to
the home occupied by Mrs. Miller
and the latter took possession of
the ranch. Marvin is employed on
the state highway and will reside
in his temporary home until he
finds permanent quarters.
Mr. Miller will soon join his
family here and they will start to
improve the ranch and put in crops
as soon as possible.
