S her win -W illi a ms SWP House Paint Last December, the Takilma store, owned and operated by Mr, and Mrs. Harry Messenger for years, was pur chased by Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Baird, and they took immediate possession. The Takilma store was one of the old landmarks of the valley and the community was sorry to lose the Mes senger family, but they did not move out of the valley. They now reside at Cave Junction, and Harry is oper ating the Platerica mine. Mr. and Mrs. Baird are well known valley residents and were no strang ers to the Takilma territory and im mediately fit into the picture of the local community. Mr. Baird was ap pointed postmaster for Takilma, which is located in the s.ore. The store is a general dry goods and gro cery store and serves the farmer« nearby and the many miners in the mountains near Takilma. EASTER STAR CHAPTER HAS HAD BUSY YEAR Matron Hallie Huntington of Eugene. All officers but one were able to en- jcy the hospitality of the Glenda’e Chapter. A school of instruction in ritualis tic ceremonies was conducted early in the year by the Associate Grand Matron, Dora Stipe. Mrs. Stipe was honored by an informal tea. A Christmas party with a tree and gift exchange follows the December business meeting, at which time new officers are elected. Memorial services are held annual ly in May and this year will revere the memory of Herman Leuythe, past patron of the order, and Bessie Fulk Franklin. One charter member sur vives, Edward Dailey of Kerby. Past Western Star Chapter O.E.S. meets in the Masonic hall in Kerby on the third Tuesday of each month. For -■everal years, public installation ceremonies have been held following the annual St. John’s day home com ing dinner as guests of Belt Masonic Lodge. This is one of the most en joyable social occasions of the year when old friends and their families get together. Social and fraternal relations with other chapters are promoted at dis trict meetings held annually.
