Cc urses j J / l HAW TS FftJ) * / It is for the purpose of offer- i-g this instruction to persons who have driven for some time that the short course has been planned. These courses will be conducted in conjunction with the standard seven-week courses held in va rious sections of the state. Groups interested in participating in such a course may request the state department to schedule a class in their locality when the state driving school is being held there, it was said. i -------- ■ O'" Big Klamath Potatoes Brought To Valley The above picture Just released by State authorities is a typ.cai iiiu«,i....o."1 ,ne m.. ,u_. , ,a’<. driving is now being taught In the High Schools. Detective Story Film Wednesday and Thursday “Phantom Raiders,” with Walter Pidgeon and Florence Rice in the leading roles, will be shown at the Cave City theater Wed., Thurs., Oct. 16 and 17. The plot deals with adventures in the Panama Canal Zone while trying to find out who is sinking ships with alarming accuracy and NOTICE TO CO-OWNER OF MINE TO CONTRIBUTE frequency. Pidgeon plays the part of the sleuth, and Miss Rice is Cora Barnes, attractive secretary of Ramsell, the representative of a large London insurance firm em ploying Pidgeon. In the course of his investiga tions, the sleuth runs into murder, an ex-Chicago ganster, and sever al other unsavory happenings. He soon narrows the suspects down. Pidgeon plays Carter with great feeling for the humorous as well as the grim episodes. Florence Rice is attractive and carries the dra matic scenes like a veteran. Joseph Schildkraut, as the gangster, is properly sauve and sinister, and Donald Meek easily carries off the comedy honors as the bee keeper, Bartholomew. New Type of Safe Driving School A new type of safe driving school, in which the work covered in seven weeks in the standard driving school is condensed into one two-hour session, was inaugu rated in Salem recently when the Salem Hollywood Lions club par ticipated in the first class. The new course is designed to meet the needs of adult groups, members of which wish to improve their driving technique under the guidance of an experienced in structor, according to Earl Snell, secretary of state and sponsor of the schools. Instruction in all phases of driving is given during the two-hour session. --------------o-------------- “Many persons who have been Don’t forget the Hallowe'en driving for many years, but who Costume Dance Thursday, October learned in the haphazard fashion 31st in the American Legion hall, common in the earlier days of mo toring, recognize the value of com Cave Junction. petent instruction in the funda mentals of good driving,’’ Snell declared. “They realize, as a re sult of their own experience, that there is a distinct advantage in learning to drive properly, just as there is an advantage in learning to play golf properly. Therefore, many such people would like in struction in certain phases of op erating a motor vehicle.” Grants Pass, Oregon, Septem ber 19, 1940. TO MRS.
