That is the reason, and the only reason that I let up on writing for a time, as I figured that maybe too much Phil Snort might be a deterrent to the success of the Illinois Valley News. I believe it is proof enough of my regard for the Illinois Valley that I have lived in it for over 36 years and could not be driven out. There is no doubt but what I shall pass my remaining days here, among the scenes and environ ments I love, among friends and neighbors of whom there are no better, and eventually, all that is left of my mortal self will rest in the soil of Josephine county. If this be true, is it unreasonable to believe that I would exert all my energy, knowledge and puwer for the betterment of the Illinois Valley? All who are permanently located in this valley, whose sole interests are here and wish for honest and sensible development of same, with whom I have talked, agree with me that we should con serve and restore to our utmost ability the wildlife that abounded here before whiteman came with their instruments of destruction. When I say i wildlife I mean both animate and inanimate. Once more i I wish to reiterate that it i is not my desire to see someone, , or anyone get into trouble over the violation of game laws, and once more I wish to re iterate that, if I continue to write, I shall not let up on game-hogs and spot-light hunters. All this talk about poor hungry people needing the meat is all bosh. There are none in this valley starving. One man living in the valley was fined $200 for spot-light hunting. Anyone who hunts deer with spot light and gets caught has no one to blame but himself; so my ad vice to those who have been in the habit of doing it is to quit it. One thing more in closing: any thing that I write will be signed by Phil Snort (L. R. Webb) and will be printable in any newspeper, and I hope there is no one nar row-minded enough to blame either the Courier or the News for it. I am not making these letters personal. PHIL SNORT.
