who atempts to win promotion by ,
“smart’’ short cuts and thus runs
afoul the law he is sworn to rep­
resent. Then it becomes the fath­
er’s duty to put a halt to the cri­
minal career of his own son.
Tom Brown is seen as Beery's
adopted son who idolizes his fos­
ter-brother but is true to the
ideals of his foster-fathen. And
I-araine Johnson is the Irish waif
whom Beery makes his adopted
(laughter. After she marries Cur­
tis she finds herself unwittingly
sharing the life of a criminal.
Mrs. Earl Boyd with her mother
and sister, Mrs. E. J. Wilber and
Mrs. Matt Smith, were Grants Pass
visitors last Sunday. They also
