Thursday, October 5. 1939 Price 5 Cents T WPA Pioject To Give Employment Word has been received that the work on the Happy Camp road, a WPA project will start in the very near future. This work necessitates labor from the valley that is signed up with the county relief agent. There is quite a list all ready signed up. but so many have left the country and have other jobs that it will be necessary to have more sign up for this work. In order to take advantage of the work, one must have lived here three years and out of work. If you can qualify for this work, come to the News office and we'll get you into Grants Pass and sign up for this work. If there are some people in the valley who can take a car load of men into Grants Pass on next Wednesday, please let us know, as we have made arrangements to have the men taken in to the agents office on tht day. Men who want to go in should also come in and make arrangements for the trip. This road is vitally necessary, and we should not take a chance to let pass by. but if there are not enough men signed up, we will not get the work lone. Don't pass this by as a trifling matter. It is very serious and everyone should be vitally interested. Help us get the men to Grants Pass to sign up for this work. Mrs. Stevenson has designated next Wednesday as the day she will see the men. and this is an off day for her but she has kindly put herself out to help this section, Wednesday is not her regular day in the office. ACTIVITIES OF THE AMERICAN LEGION At the Oct. 4th meeting of the American Legion, Commander, Cecil Slack, appointed his Com mittee Chairman for the ensuing year. The drawing for the 'kitty'* which is held each meeting, was won by Roy Hervey who was not there to claim it so is held over for next meeting. Plans for the Hallowe'en Dance wbre discussed and it was decided to have some special at tractions. Advertisements and no tices will appear later as plans are perfected. White candelabra, placed at in tervals in the windows and above the altar of white gladolia and purple asters, provided the only light for the ceremony performed by Rev. Harold A. Shaw. On either side of the altar were assorted baskets of gladoli, asters, and michaelmas daisies. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a princess style white velvet gown and a corsage of white orchids. On her head was a Juliet cap set with rhinestones. Miss Anita Feldmair, maid of honor, was dressed in a full-skirt ed rose taffeta gown with a cor sage of rose-colored sweet peas. Best man for Mr. Manuel was Po lice Judge C. K. Cook of Klamath Falls. Before the ceremony Miss Lola Myers played Mendelssohn’s "Wedding March" and "Nuptial March” by Barnard. Mrs. Phelan Nelson sister-in-law of the bride, sang “I Love You Truljt” Immediately after the cere mony a reception was held in the lower auditorium of the church. The couple left on a short wed ding trip up the coast. Mr. Manuel is secretary of the Grants Pass Chamber of Commerce. ' I The auxiliary met Wed. with 12 members and one visitor present.
