should try to get more interest
in our local organization.
Wm. McLean—I don't see it
like the rest do. I think it is a
good idea and we would reap
more good than harm, If we do
not want to join the county cham
ber at present, and the consensus
J of opinion here expressed seems
against the idea, why not try this

go back to our local chamber. If
the county goes places, we must
be a united front and all be boost
ers, and I believe the county or
ganization with proper coordina
tion would win.
Don Thompson — I am very
much in favor of a county cham
ber, but in a way, separate from
the other. I could attend a cham
ber meeting here occasionally,
but could never get to Grants Pass
to attend. But I do not believe
it a good move to give up our in-
dividuality.
M. C. Athey—I do believe that
the county organization will do
more for us than we can do for
ourselves. I am in favor of the
county chamber. However,
I
would like to see us keep our
identity as an Illinois Valley unit
of the Grants Pass and Josephine
county Chamber. If this could be
worked out, it would be the ideal
way to settle this. Keep our name
and still be a part of the county
organization. Also, I want to tell
the members, that if we do stay
the way we are, we must incorpor
ate. Personally I won't have
much to do with a local chamber
that is not incorporated in the
future.
Elwood Hussey made a motion
that we defer any action until a
later date so that general discus-
sion can be had. Also that we
pledge our cooperation to a coun
ty Chamber of Commerce.
President Drews stated that be
fore we could act on this motion
we would have to dispose of the
resolution that was acted upon
last week to be finally voted on
now. A suggestion by Athey
that we vote the resolution down
and go ahead with Mr. Hussey's
idea. The resolution was finally
voted down and Mr. Hussey's mo-

take. Mr. McLean suggested that
if they could not attend that they
send a letter stating their views.
Mr. Manuel suggested that we add
if they would support a local or
ganization.
Mr. Brooks stated that the reas
on there were not more farmers
at the meetings was because the
farmers profits have been cut
down to such an extent that he
has to work 16 hours a day to
make both ends meet. If your
meetings were held at night, more
farmers could find time to attend.
The suggestion will be discussed
later and perhaps evening meet
ings can be arranged.
Just before the chamber closed
a few discussed the drainage prob
lein of the city, and a plan is on
foot to see what can be done to ,
get the work done. There seems
to be some misunderstanding and ,
this can be explained and all co
operate and get started on the
drainage. President Drews prom
ises to have some information by
next week.

Editor News:
We want to express our ap
preciation for the work Mrs. E.
L. Coovert has done in connection
with teaching the children of the
various valley schools Christmas
carols, and leading them in sing
ing the carols all over the valley.
The teachers of the schools co
operated wonderfully well and
the whole idea is one that should
be carried on each year. How
ever, we surely do appreciate the
services which Mrs. Coovert has
rendered to the valley.

5 ILLINOIS VALLEY A
| HAPPY NEW YEAR
:
Kenneth Wells, master of Illi
nois Valley said he appreciated
the honor bestowed upon him by
his Grange and would try to live
up to their expectations with the
members and officers cooperation.
He also thanked Mrs. Norman for
the efficient manner in which she
carried on the installation.
A report on the new addition
to the Deer Creek Grange hall
was made and progress is on the
way. The new addition will be
a room 20x68 feet and will help
materially to make Deer Creek
hall one of the best. W I. Tuttle
is doing the construction work
with volunteer help.
It was decided to give a bene
fit dance for Ernest Woodcock
and family, who recently lost all
their belongings when their home
was destroyed by fire. The dance
will be held New Year's eve in
the Deer Creek Grange hall.
Refreshments were served to all
after the meeting and all went
home feeling that a most profit
able one had been spent.
