(Continued on Page Hi ree) Committee Wednesday Illinois Valley The big show of the year is over, as far as the Illinois Valley is concerned, for the Second An- nual Miners’ Jubilee folded up last Monday evening with the most successful show ever given in the valley. Starting Saturday evening, when Queen Ruth was crowned at the Cave City theatre and then to the Queen’s ball in the Legion hall, the Jubilee went merrily on its way to the finish. Of course, the high light of the Jubilee this year was the ban quet held Monday night in honor of the builders of the Redwood highway when many dignitaries of the highway and the Redwoods Empire attended. Among those who made the banquet a royal success, was Clyde Edmondson, general manager of the Red woods Empire of San Francisco, who made the principal address of the evening. This story is com plete in another column The concessions on “Fun Street” helped some to amuse the folks, and the Miner’s Casino was one of the bright spots of the cele bration. Pat Murphy of Klamath, brought several of his boys along and gave the valley residents a typical old time amusement hall which was enlivened by several musical troopers who knew their stuff, and one room was full near ly all the time with spectators lis tening to the musicians. The gold panning contest was scheduled for Monday morning, but some where there was a slip and it had to be postponed until after the Rodeo in the afternoon, and it was then held on the river at Cave City Park. Bill George, the world’s champion gold panner, won the first prize and Bud Matthews, both of Kerby, won the second prize. The Jubilee was attended by one of the largest crowds ever seen in the valley. With the street filled to capacity with automo biles, it was a hard job to find a place to park a car. The Rodeo held forth in the afternoons, and the mineral ex- hibits were very fine and attract ed a large crowd The Forest Ser vice exhibit in the mineral hall was one of th»' best in the county. A deer and three small fawns were in a pen and attracted every visitor. They were so gentle that they would come up to the fence and eat out of your hand and stand while being petted. This ex hibit attracted as much favorable comment as anything at the Jub ilee. The Forest Service always has a fine exhibit and it is surely appreciated by the folks of the valley and the many visitors. The para<ie Monday at 1 p. m. led by the Grants Pass band was not as good as last year's parade. However, it was one of the at tractions that all was glad to see. Universal satisfaction by the residents was given this year's show, and the committee was urg ed to go to greater successes next year. ■. ■ CARD ()-------------------------— OF THANKS I wish to thank everyone who helped with the Jubilee banquet, especially those who helped serve, the Garden club for decorations an<l those who loaned dishes and silver.
