McClendon, who has been down in the central part of the state for the past six months with a government survey crew, return ed to this city Monday and will be stationed here for some time doing work with a survey crew here. Mr. McClendon stated that he recently had received the ap pointment as a U. S. Mineral sur vey official and is prepared to handle all work brought to him.— Crescent City American. I i ! We sincerely hope that the county court will re cognize the fact that Commissioner Thrasher was a resident of the Illinois Valley and that this up and coming section should have the representation in the county court as it has always had, and will appoint the new member from one of the valley citizens. If the court carries out its intention to fill the va cancy with a member who will not lie a candidate in the fall election, we believe they will be doing the county an injustice. But we seem to have a divided opinion as to what is good and what is necessary for our Union High School. Folks, this divided opinion is NOT SO HOT. Our public school system of the country is the cradle of our liberty and freedom. It is the one system in the nation that we MUST keep going, and we should make this system as good as we can. In sections of the country like ours, undeveloped, sparsely settled and no big corporations to help out in taxation, there is sometimes a limit to what we can do.
